Place: Emig Park in Hallam From YorkBlog (online):

Clayton Eli Emig was born in Hallam on Nov. 4, 1862. He was the youngest of ten children. He practiced law in all courts in Washington, D.C., and was eventually nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court. In 1929, he purchased the 7 1/2-acre tract bearing his name with the idea of building a home, but that was not practical since he spent so much time in D.C. He died in 1940 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. His family donated the land to the borough with the stipulation it be designated the Clayton Ely Emig Memorial Park; it was dedicated on September 30, 1973. In 2002, Cornerstone Development Group donated 13 acres more, and in 2007, an expansion project began, which was to include another pavilion, basketball courts, walking trails and a new volleyball area.

From Hallambourough (online):

\"History of Clayton Eli Emig Park The Clayton Ely Emig Memorial Park was established from 7 1/2 acres of land donated by his family. Clayton Emig was born in Hallam on Nov 4, 1862. He was the youngest of ten children. Mr. Emig practiced law in the courts of Washington DC. In 1929 he purchased the land with hopes of returning the Hallam, however with most of his time spent in Washington a home was never built. Mr. Emig passed away in 1940. He is buried in Arlington Cemetery. In 1972 Councilman Gleason Crumbling enlisted local neighbors to create a park commission. Gardner Harms, Marie Harms, Armond Cunningham Sr, Ervin Smith, and Morgan Williams were the founding members of the newly created park commission. Over the next year, thru countless volunteer hours of hard work and limited funds, trees were cut down and removed, brush was cleared and preparations were made to turn the land into a park. On September 30, 1973 the park was dedicated. A parade was held to mark the event. Over time playground equipment was erected including the long slide down the hillside. A pavilion was built and dedicated on July 4, 1976 to the memory of Charles Stiles , a later member of the commission. Over the years memorial trees were planted for some of the founding members of the park commission. In 1997 the commission was dissolved and today the Borough cares for the park. On July 28, 2000 KCV Lioness club donated playground equipment for an additional play area. In 2002, the Cornerstone Development Group donated approximately 13 acres, enlarging the park to its now 20 1/2 acres. In 2004 the park was expanded to include an additional pavilion, public restrooms, and additional recreation facilities. In 2006 a playhouse was built thanks to the Eagle Scout project of Doug Buckel. Today the park continues to grow as a vital part of the community expanding to include various events with the community and local organizations to allow for continuous enjoyment.\"
