vintage Norton Bear USA HM8 hard arkansas oilstone 7-7/8\" x 1-13/16\" x 7/8\" nice:
$102.50

Good morning all. Here is avintage Norton Bear brand, Made in USA, HM 8 hard arkansas oilstone, measuring 7-7/8\" x 1-13/16\" x 7/8\". This is the nicest stone I have found in 25 years, and I never expect to find another one this nice. The top does not show any light anywhere when I hold my combination square against it. Based on the visual, any use was minimal. The top is shown in pictures 1, and 6 - 8. The stone alone weighs 1 pound, 4 ounces.
However since nothing is perfect, PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
1. At some point long ago, the stone was glued to the bottom of the wooden box (last 3 pictures). I can\'t find a relevant Catalog in Internet Archives, so I don\'t know if this was factory, or a user \"improvement\". I raise this because the bottom of the stone (which also shows no light) has some light glue residue on the bottom (pictures 13 - 15). From feel, I think this is residue and not etching of the stone. I expect that it would clear through use, although I expect that it will be a long time before anyone would need to use the bottom of this stone.2. There is some heavier glue residue and some surface chipping on the bottom of one side of the stone (11th picture). This is not a crack in the stone, as the corresponding area of the bottom of the stone is unmarked.3. The ends of the stone are a degree or two off of 90, so it is actually a parallelogram, not a perfect rectangle.4. The box has a heavy damp basement smell. I have aired it out and let it sit a couple of weeks in a container of baking soda, but the smell may be there for the duration. The stone does not have the smell.5. As you can see from the pictures, one end of the bottom of the box is missing. I made a cardboard template, which I will send for what it is worth. My first attempt at a wooden end was about a C-, or maybe a D+. The buyer can take the next attempt if they care to.6. There is a dried glue drop on the top of the box (16th picture).
This is not an inexpensive item, so message with questions or for more pictures.
