One end has been cut and polished and displays a combination of intense reds, orange, yellow, black and gray colors. The Yellow Cat “Red wood” is highly sought after by fossil wood collectors the world over because the colorful agate replacement is unprecedented. “Red wood” refers to the bright orange to deep red carnelian limb casts from the Yellow Cat Flat area in Utah and is purely a color description and not a reference to a specific tree species which are believed to have been conifers. The polished surface of this piece is 1.80" and the length is 4.55" from end to end. The specimen weighs 487 grams.”
