Brazilian Blackwheart, woods in the Zollernia species tend to be very dark colored, and very oily. The wood is sometimes used as a substitute for Lignum Vitae. Heartwood dark brown, sometimes with a grey or green hue. Sapwood is pale yellowish, and is sharply demarcated from the heartwood. Grain tends to be interlocked. With a fine even texture and excellent natural luster. Moderately difficult to work on account if its density and interlocked grain.
As a world-renowned artisan, I was able to form this fine writing instrument through a painstaking process that involved several hours and stages in order to present a finely polished work of art. The blank was measured and drilled before inserting a brass tube. It was then trued on each end before being placed on my Rikon midi-lathe for the shaping using various chisels. When the desired shape was achieved, I then took it through a multi-stage sanding process finishing with nine steps of micro-mesh, followed by a multi-step polishing with boiled linseed oil and medium Cyanoacrylate and then thin Cyanoacrylate, finishing with several coats of carnauba wax resulting in a glass like finish.
