This completely original and irresistibly fun Bolt Action pen will be hard for anyone to put down. Every detail, from the one-of-a-kind bolt action mechanism to the precision engineered components, was carefully designed to ensure uniqueness and reliability. The realistic bolt-action handle smoothly advances and retracts to securely lock the refill in place. Includes a bolt action rifle clip and a replica 30 caliber cartridge and rose gold bullet tip for added authenticity. Includes a smooth writing Parker style refill. This particular pen is a duplicate of the one I made for myself. Thuya Burl is my favorite wood. Combined with the 24kt Gold plating, I think this is truly the most special 30 caliber bolt-action pen I make.
Thuya Burl is an exotic wood that the Greeks named thuya, meaning sacrifice, because they used an oil distilled from it as incense in their religious ceremonies. Some churches still use it and as sandarac oil it is valued for medicinal uses. The burls are as beautiful as they are fragrant, and the Greeks and Romans vied with each other over furniture made from them. Thuya trees, along with cedars and oaks, once covered the Atlas Mountains of Algeria and Morocco, but because of over cutting, large areas have been treeless for hundreds of years. Thuya burl is fairly firm and dense with a high oil content but tends to be brittle. Its color varies from a rich, lustrous golden brown to nearly black. The eyes, perfectly round, are scattered about in some burls like the figure in bird\'s-eye maple; in others they are grouped as islands.
As a world-renowned artisan, I was able to form this fine writing instrument through a painstaking process that involved several hours and stages in order to present a finely polished work of art. The blank was measured and drilled before inserting a brass tube. It was then trued on each end before being placed on my Rikon midi-lathe for the shaping using various chisels. When the desired shape was achieved, I then took it through a multi-stage sanding process finishing with nine steps of micro-mesh. It was then coated with several coats of cyanoacrylate, followed by a three step polishing with Aussie Oil, and finished with several coats of carnauba wax, resulting in a glass like finish.
