c1915 Postcard Entire Crew of USS New York Battleship BB-34 World War I - WWI:
$99.99

This rare postcard features the entire crew, along with officers, of the USS New York BB-34 battleship during World War I.

Approximate size: 5.4 inches x 3.4 inches

The USS New York (BB-34) was a United States Navy battleship and the lead ship of her class. Named after the state of New York, it was built by the Brooklyn Navy Yard and launched on October 30, 1912. The ship was commissioned on May 15, 1914, and decommissioned on August 29, 1946. Its armament included 5 twin 14 in (356 mm) guns, 21 single 5 in (127 mm) guns, 4 single 3-pounder 47 mm (1.85 in) saluting guns, 2 single 1-pounder 37 mm (1.46 in) guns, and 4 21 in (533 mm) torpedo tubes.

The USS New York served in both World War I and World War II. During World War I, she was part of the U.S. Navy force which was sent to reinforce the British Grand Fleet in the North Sea. In World War II, she served as a convoy escort for ships to Iceland and Great Britain in the early phase of the war. She saw her first combat against coastal artillery during Operation Torch around Casablanca in North Africa.

After the wars, the USS New York was used as a target during the atomic bomb tests at Bikini, Marshall Islands, in July 1946. Too radioactive and far too old for further use, she was decommissioned a month later. In July 1948, the USS New York was towed out to sea off Pearl Harbor and sunk as a target for Navy aircraft and ships.

There is some light wear and discoloration, which is not uncommon for its age, although there may be other imperfections I didn't spot, so please inspect the pictures, as they give the best representation of condition.
