Photographer_________ Union View Company, Rochester, NY & Catawifsa Creek, PA Title: Family in front of print on photographer’s mount Size of Image: na Size of Mount: 8 x 10 inches Condition: Warm, medium tonal image, shows soiling/rubbing/aging, mount shows soiling/aging, edges/corners rubbed/bumped with loss at view of a rural family in front of their white frame home. The gent sports a white chin beard and stands in front of a child in a buggy. Location unknown, acquired in Central New York State. Union View Company (also known as the Union View & Copy Company) operated for a short time out of Rochester, New York from about 1880 through 1884 with a second location in Washington, D.C. (dates unknown). In 1884 the firm of Woodward & Albee acquired the Union View Company with Albee retiring one year later. Woodward Stereoscopic Company continued until about 1887 when a new partnership with Charles R. Webster and Josephus Albee acquired the firm under the name Webster & Albee. They were known to publish the works of other photographers (not always with permission) as well as their own views. Additionally, they were one of the many firms at that time which sent itinerant photographers into the field to photograph families in front of their homes as well as other sites along the way for commercial use. One photographer identified to the firm was Henry Sartor noted by one source as working from 1876 until 1886. He was known to have traveled through Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Michigan and other places while employed.
