LOST WAX PROCESS

First, I create each piece by using a special jeweler's wax, adding droplet by droplet

then details are hand hand carved

Next each piece is then mounted on a wax sprue tree, then will be encased in a flask.

The investment (similar to plaster but absorbs heat much better) is vacuumed on a vacuum table before to remove air bubbles poured into the flask.

After the investment is set, the flasks are loaded into the burn out oven

the wax is melted out (about 8 hrs)

so it's a hollow cavity in the flask.

Using special heat protective equipment,

the flask is removed from the oven and placed into the centrifugal casting machine

the sterling silver is melted in the crucible and spun cast into the flask (about 1600 Fahrenheit) if the silver gets too hot, it can break down and even the vaporize!

The flask is removed after a few minutes and set to cool on a concrete floor

and then put in the water bucket.

(The investment boils out) very hot! When cool , flask is removed, the cast pieces are cleaned up

the jewelry piece has excess metal cut off, filed, cleaned, pickled then buffed, ultrasonically cleaned and steam cleaned.
