Super Rare 💎!Either if your advertising, cigar/Segar collector or like myself, got bit by that darn Bulldog Bug! But know it’s time for someone else enjoy it! Carefully examine pictures, tried my best to get every point of view. If needed I can give more insight with any questions you may have.“At the Sign of the Bulldog” pottery jar would have 50 of John W. Merriam’s best. His shop actually had a bulldog sign and he used the dog in his ads “Lud”. This unglazed upright was filled with cigars in Factory 1, 2nd Dist. NYC around 1900. Few exist today.Not only do I like Bulldogs. I started to collect tobacco jars. Which lead me doing research. Now if you’re familiar with the highly sought after Martin Bros. If you don’t know check their tobacco jars, very cool, and cost $$$. Where am getting at I feel this may not be as big and corky as theirs. But definitely as amazing in comparison. The Bulldog head on lid is A5 top notch sculpture. Plus with the addition switching to an art deco bulldog on the front. This is such a fantastic piece of art but also historical. When I purchased this piece I was told from prior owner. That the only one they known to exist is in DC at Smithsonian. Not saying there can’t be another one out there but highly unlikely.
