Offered here is a vintage Bradley & Hubbard cast iron doorstop of a cockatoo. The paint on the bird is clearly original. The paint on the base clearly is not. This is common on doorstops that would routinely be swept with a broom on the front porch. Quite simply it looks too good. To all be original on the base. These have the original rubber bumpers that are always very brittle. I will pack very carefully but do not guarantee the the bumpers will survive. These cast-iron doorsteps have been known to break in half on the pedestal just underneath the cockatoo. So this doorstop will be overpacked.
Bradley Hubbard doorstops were unique because many of them were designed as works of art. Most doorstops to that era were designed to be thrown across a floor when a strong gust of wind slammed the door shut. Not this one at over 14 pounds.
It is often mistakenly identified as a parrot.
