Handmade Yad. The most VIVIDLY STRIPED TIGER MAPLE!!! Gorgeous FIGURE!!! Please review each photo to see all the subtleties of color and grain in this wood. At about 7.25” in length it is suitable for ANY hand size. It includes a substantial 16” Italian Sterling Silver wrist chain and the black velvet carry bag as shown. It’s designed to be held in either of the two positions demonstrated in the photos. Neither the Yarmulke nor the folding wooden ruler nor anything else in the photos are part of the listing - they’re shown only for presentation and to show size/dimensions.

A brief note about the striping... While tiger maple isn’t particularly rare, to find tiger maple with such closely spaced and fine lined striping on a piece with such a small scale is truly rare. For over 20 years I’ve looked in vain for another piece of tiger maple this striking and vividly striped. Luckily I was able to cut a few yad blanks from the board from which this was made so that I can make a few more of these.

For a child studying to become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, it is extremely helpful to own their own yad - one that can be used for practice at Hebrew school, with their teacher/tutor as well as at home when practicing alone. Using one’s own yad during the months leading up to the ceremony can inspire confidence, encourage practice and serve as a familiar implement to help one focus during the actual reading - an event many find intimidating.

Each yad I make is unique. No two are alike. Many yads out there are mass produced. They’re often made of glass, cast brass or other metal and some are made of wood, but none share the appealing modern form, incredible figuring & uniqueness of my design. The most ornate and expensive yads are often made by silversmiths and cost hundreds of dollars. They are beautiful in their own right (as any yad can be) but those ornate silver yads - aside from being costly, are often very formal in appearance which may not resonate with a 12-13 year old who might find that size or style antiquated, intimidating or otherwise “Not for me”. My yads have a smooth, warm tactile feel that encourages use. Not only are they beautiful to look at, they feel great in the hand and serve as a comfort when they’ll need it most.
