World\'s Fair Louisiana Purchase Exposition - Silver Medal w/ Original box (1904): $270.00
*this listing has been recently updated to add the following:・The Louisiana Purchase Exposition Silver Medal (1904) after a long, arduous process of moving shops, has finally & thankfully been reunited with its original casing. The Casing reads, \"UNIVERSAL EXPOSITION - 1904 - SAINT LOUIS\". It has wear to edges, but all things considered, is in great condition. Important to note: the listing price has increased slightly, as having the two is \"the full set\" and what a wonderful set it is. The Louisiana Purchase Exposition, also known as the St. Louis World\'s Fair (1904), was an an international exposition held in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase. Notable contributions to this exposition include:- Wireless telephone- Airplane- Electric streetcar- X-Ray machine- Fax machine- Ice Cream Cones This is an original, Louisiana Purchase Exposition Silver Medal (1904). The \'silver\' refers to placing; the actual metal used was bronze alloy, which in the past was often referred to as \"government bronze\". The medal was designed byAdolf Alexander Weinman (1870 - 1952). His signature \'A. A. Weinman FECT\' is inscribed on the medal. Interesting tidbit about the artist: In addition to his work as a medallist, Weinman is well known for his coin two successful coin commissions, the Winged Head Liberty Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. His success doesn\'t end there; by the time he died, he had created some of the most notable medallic and sculpture works in American history. His work is on permanent display in museums and outdoor spaces across the country. The medal is in excellent, near \"museum quality\" condition e.g the artist signature and the bees on the cloak are clearly visible. The same medal, of similar caliber quality, is at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. •Bronze•2.625 x 2.625 x 0.25\"•6.3 oz
