Up for sale at the Grand Antique Mall located in Cincinnati, Ohio are five (5) framed US Navy bronze medals awarded to ORLANDO ROLAND SIMMS (1919-1971) who served in the navy during World War II. Simms was born 2/17/1919 in Breathitt County, KY.; he died July 20, 1971 in Butler County, OH. The Good Conduct Medal and Second Award Bronze Bar is engraved ORLANDO ROLAND SIMMS on the back. All five medals and their accompanying ribbons are original, authentic, and awarded to Captain Simms in the 1940s. Medals are in top, pristine condition and have been protected inside a frame since 1948. The 5 medals: 1. GOOD CONDUCT & SECOND AWARD; 2.VICTORY; 3.AMERICAN CAMPAIGN; 4.EUROPEAN AFRICAN MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN; 5.OCCUPATION SERVICE.Framed in a shadow box 8.5” x 6.5” x 1”. Weight is .80 lbs. The following is a description of each medal:


1. US Navy GOOD CONDUCT Medal & SECOND AWARD Bronze Bar.

Back is engraved: ORLANDO ROLAND SIMMS 1946. Encircling Simms’ name: FIDELITY ZEAL OBEDIENCE. Medal designed by Joseph Kiselewski. Consists of a slot brooch, half inch pin-back ribbon bar, and slide-on bar Second Award.


2. US Navy World War II VICTORY Medal.

Multi colored ribbon with working pin closure and sewn brooch.

Back: FREEDOM FROM FEAR AND WANT (palm branch) FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND RELIGION. Encircling the freedoms: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1941 1945. Designed by Thomas H. Jones (1892-1969) and signed TJ on the front side, lower right.


3. US Navy AMERICAN CAMPAIGN Medal.

Crimp brooch and half-inch clutch-back ribbon bar.

Back: Eagle and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman (1870-1952) and signed W on the back side, lower center.


4. US Navy EUROPEAN AFRICAN MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN Medal.

Brooch and half-inch clutch-back ribbon bar. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman (1870-1952) and signed W beneath the eagle’s left talon, back side. 1946 was the last time the medal was awarded.


5. US Navy OCCUPATION SERVICE Medal.

Front: Mythological Neptune riding a Hippocampus and the words OCCUPATION SERVICE. Back: UNITED STATES NAVY. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman 1870-1952.
