Woonsocket Rhode Island RI Court House Postcard

The former Woonsocket District Courthouse is a historic court building on 24 Front Street in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. The courthouse, a two-story stone structure, was designed in 1894 in a Richardsodian Romanesque style. When completed in 1896 it housed the court of the Twelfth Judicial District, later reorganized as the Seventh Division. In 1990 that court was consolidated with the Fifth Division in Pawtucket, which later was consolidated with the Sixth Division. In 1992 the former courthouse was sold to the City of Woonsocket and in 2003 it was sold and renovated for residential uses. The building is now known as the Courthouse Condos.

The postcard misrepresents the statue in front of the Courthouse. The Woonsocket Spanish American War Memorial was dedicated May 1925 with a sculpture entitled "The Hiker" by Allen G. Newman depicting an American soldier in uniform of the Spanish-American War and in a nonchalant pose. It was placed in May of 1925. The plaque below the sculpture is inscribed as follows: THE CITY OF WOONSOCKET TO HER SONS WHO ON LAND AND SEA DEFENDED/THE NATION'S HONOR IN/THE WAR WITH SPAIN AND THE PHILIPPINE >INSURRECTION

Colourpicture (1938-1969) Boston and Cambridge, MA: was a greeting card and postcard printer and distributor in Boston, Massachusetts, on Newbury Street with a factory at 76a Atherton Street. A major publisher and printer of linen view-cards of the United States. They later went on to publish photochromes and small spiral bound picture booklets under the trademark Plastichrome in the 1950's. The trademark expired in 1987.

Please review the photos carefully for condition and detail. Normal wear associated with an old postcard have creases, corner bumps, scratches, ink on the front etc.
