This is a nice looking old comic on first glance, but it has some wear, hence the grade. The pics tell most of the story, but one thing you may not notice in the pics is the tape repair and reinforcement on the inside spine. It looks like the cover was carefully removed, carefully taped, then the staples carefully reattached. A shadow along the spine front and back leads me to believe that there was originally tape reinforcement there as well that flaked off or which was subsequently removed by a later collector. There is also tape repair on the inside front cover and tape reinforcement securing the centerfold to the book. As the centerfold doesn’t look torn or detached, this looks like a preventative measure. The comic may also have been pressed by a dealer (see the top left of the front cover to see what looks like a pressing of creasing). So while the comic looks pretty good a collector or a series of past owners, whether collectors or dealers, have done their best to make this comic look above its grade, as well as take a measure to increase its lifespan (the tape reinforcement on the inside staples). I was reminded of what I read about old comics repaired by Pop Hollinger, but I do not believe this is a Hollinger, as the tape is different than what he used.
