It would be very difficult to find a Spirit page with more characters jammed into it than this one!The Spirithimself is offscreen as the kids take control of this episode. His trusty sidekickEbonyas the local kingmaker has rounded up dozens of neighborhood kids to vote in the Junior Presidential Election! Ebony, in a tie-breaking nomination vote for the All-Year Vacation Party, selectsP.S. Smith, the cigar-smoking mute kid who of late has joined the Spirit cast. Eisner’s own inking is self-evidernt in the lush folds and shadows of the clothing close-ups.
Size/condition:The original measures 16.25 x 22.5 inches on Bristol board and is in excellent condition. Will placed archival white tape over some discoloration at the very top and bottom from presumed rubber cement residue, but this is barely noticeable: the art itself is unaffected in any way. There are no paste-ups and only a couple dabs of white-out.
Will Eisner(1917-2005)is one of the most admired and beloved figures in comics history. An important artist, writer, editor and “packager,” he began his long career as a teenager shortly after the birth of comic books in the mid 1930s. He is is best known as the creator ofThe Spiritand the modern graphic novel, but also invented Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, Blackhawk, Dollman, and other Golden Age characters. Eisner also pioneered the field of educational comics, both for the U.S. Army and private industry. The annual Will Eisner Awards for excellence in comics, presented annually in San Diego, are named after him. His original art, which does not often appear on , sometimes sells for tens of thousands of dollars at sale.
