Far more than just a book on learning to sew - Healey's goal is to teach you the tricks of the trade of professional clothes designers. There are sections on fabrics, color (the list of descriptions of 264 colors is excellent), pattern adjustments, the study of line, laundering, as well as lessons on the nitty-gritty of buttons and other closures, pockets, plaits and darts, stitches and hems, etc. The book begins and ends with sections on grooming - and 1930s books on grooming are the best reads I swear.
A very useful book that's also a lovely read.
Wear to cover including some delamination of the cellophane layer and fraying at the edges. The title page is frayed and chipped at the top and has a lovely 1937 gift inscription "Compliments of the White Sewing Machine Co." Pages otherwise unmarked, in good condition.
