WWII US A2 Bomber Jacket Edwin "Eddy" Gillman B-17 - 25 Missions - Berlin 1945

Rare Original Artefact with Dog Tag

Original WWII A2 Bomber Jacket issued to Edwin Eddy Gillman, he had an interesting story. Which Gillman recorded also on YouTube an account of his life story. He served as the Waist Gunner manning a 50.Cal MG onboard the infamous B17 Bomber. Gillman was shot down in December of 1944 and managed to reach Russian Lines, the Russian who arrested him stole his Colt side arm, but returned him to US Lines. He flew again, and impressive 25 Missions in Europe. His unit was: 8th Air Force, 463rd Bomber Group. They managed to Bomb Berlin in March 24th 1945 from Italy, they were tasked with destroying the Daimler Benz Factory in Berlin-Mariendorf. Images of the raid can be found online on Mercedes Benz Website.

The Jacket - Condition, the jacket displays well from the front, the back sadly has as many do some signs of age. This would be best displayed in a mount or on a display where the weight does not effect it. The insignia of the 8th Air Force is a nice bullion one. Laundry Number matches the Initials and last digits of his serial number.

Masters of the Air has meant these have all dried up and are in good collections, this is for sure a one of a kind museum grade artefact with the provenance and accounts of the veteran online.
