This is an original discharge for a WWII soldier from Conyers, GA named Alton J. Baker. He may have been African-American. His military occupation was lineman, telephone and telegraph. He served from Jan. 16, 1942 to Nov. 3, 1945. He was born on Mar. 11, 1920 and had been a farmer in his private life. He had only gone through the 5th grade at Rockdale County, GA. The discharge is signed by Alton and by Edward M. Moran, classification officer. Another item accompanies the discharge. It is an appeal from Jeremiah E. Sullivan, chaplain to the Pleasant Hill Church in Conyers to assist Alton to his readjustment to civilian life.These items are in good condition.
