Rarely seen large format food conservation poster. Great image of home canning. In spectacular condition.One in a series of six exceptional conservation posters -- each accomplished in a Modernist style in an appealing, patriotic and colorful manner.
Aside from a few illustrations for McCall's magazine, Carter Housh is known ONLY for these six propaganda posters, encouraging Americans to preserve food during WWI.
This poster shows a white-clad Columbia, goddess of America, with her star-spangled cape holding a massive tray laden with fresh fruits and vegetables. Below her is a large handled saucepan and empty jars lined up ready for filling.*Extremely rare and there is only ONE documented sale sale which was in 2012 for $1920.
