WW II USMC Marine Corps Invasion of Cape Gloucester An OP-Order History Book:
$29.00

For those of us that are veterans we are, or at least should be familiar with, an Operations Orders. This Op-Order reveals all of the in depth planning for the invasion of Cape Gloucester, which was on the opposite side of the island from the base at Rabaul on the Island of New Georgia.

These types of reports / documents were created by the S-3 (Operations), and were held at division for use in preparing for the invasion. Also, they were used as a templet for future amphibious operations conduct by the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific war. This rarely made it out of \"official hands\". This document was declassified sometime in the 1950s, and has unclassified stamps on the pages.

This was one of the harshest places to wage war as the jungles of this nasty little spot of green hell was way more of an enemy than the Japanese forces.

The Battle of Cape Gloucester was fought in the Pacifictheater of World War II between Japanese and Allied forces on the island of NewBritain, Territory of New Guinea, between 26 December 1943 and 16 January 1944.Codenamed Operation Backhander, the US landing formed part of the widerOperation Cartwheel, the main Allied strategy in the South West Pacific Areaand Pacific Ocean Areas during 1943–1944. It was the second landing the US 1stMarine Division had conducted during the war thus far, after Guadalcanal. Theobjective of the operation was to capture the two Japanese airfields near CapeGloucester that were defended by elements of the Japanese 17th Division.

This reprinted book is 8 1/2 x 11 staple bound with 184 pages.
