This is a wonderful find of a uniquely designed, antique, large, lightly used, musical, Clock Peddler Alpen chalet cuckoo clock that was created and hand carved about 40 years ago in the \"Swiss\" Alps by \"Robert Lotscher,\" the finest Swiss clock maker in this region. The clock is just stunning and unlike any I\'ve ever seen and it has a remarkable, rare, blended dark walnut finish with lots of color. It\'s an impressive size too measuring about 11\" at its highest (not counting the weights, chains, or pendulum), about 6 1/2\" at its deepest point, and about 12\" at its widest point.The clock is carved from cured and aged Linden wood which has been the choice of clock carvers in Switzerland and the Black Forest since the 1870\'s.The roof has layered wood and there ae faux wooden timbers and simulated boulders on it which are actually used to keep the roof on the real homes during nasty weather. There are supporting timbers under the roofline in front, tapered wooden trim too and several faux colorful flower wreaths. There is a carved wooden balcony just above the dial and two sets of windows, more colorful wreaths, and wooden shutters too. Two larger windows and log trim flank the wooden dial and more color and wooden shutters too. The wooden dial features large, easy to read Roman numerals to mark the hours and matching fancy hands to point out the time. The phrase, \"Swiss made\" appears on the lower dial. There is more carved wooden trim under the lower balcony just below the dial in front. The green balcony is quite extensive going from side to side and from front to all the way in back. There is a highly detailed clock push cart mounted to the left that belongs to the colorful Clock Vendor mounted to the right next to the wooden water well with more flowers and a colorful bush behind it. Both the cart and clock peddler are genuine \"Department 56\" collector pieces and come with the original box as shown. There is a wooden rail fence to the left on the balcony with more colorful flowers and a stack of wooden kindling next to a wooden log. There is a wooden bench just under the dial and a certificate of authenticity (Swiss Handicraft) is hung from the well on the right. The wooden back is secured with a metal latch and removes easily to allow access to the mechanical, weight driven movement produced by \"Regula\" and bears the R Lotscher name and Switzerland point of origin. A weight driven movement simply means the weights need to be pulled occasionally in order to wind the clock, cuckoo/chime activities, and the music as well. Thebellow tubes and tops look to be in good shape and they make good sound too. At the bottom of each hour, the wooden door to the right above the wooden dial opens and a colorful bird stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled cathedral chime inside the case before retreating back inside the clock and closing the door. Once he\'s inside, the wooden door to the left above the dial opens and a colorful Swiss man holding a zither in his lap appears in the doorway. At the same time, a high quality, \"Cuendet Swiss\" music box plays a wonderful rendition of \"Lara\'s Theme from Dr Zhivago,\" one of the most popular tunes ever. When the music stops, the man retreats to the inside of the clock and closes the door. The bird reappears at the top of each hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours before going back inside the clock and closing the door. When he\'s back inside the man appears again in the other doorway and this time the Swiss music box plays an equally impressive version of \"Edelweiss,\" a lovely classic from the Sound of Music and my wife\'s favorite. When the music stops, the man goes back inside and closes the door; absolutely fascinating! There is an intact label affixed to the lower case on the back listing the song titles, Cuendet manufacture, and Swiss origin. The clock works very well here, keeps good time, cuckoos and chimes as it should, and the music is outstanding too. Keep in mind that even though it looks like it\'s a newer clock, it is not. This is an old clock and we don\'t know the service history despite the movement appearing to have had some maintenance in the past. The clock may need service or repairs we don\'t see here once it arrives at its new home which is why we recommend to our clock buyers to do the simple maintenance as the factory recommends...once every three years. Doing so will keep a classic clock like this one running strong for years to come. I\'ve looked the clock over fairly well and can\'t find any damage or missing parts or much in the way of wear at all. It is just a gorgeous old clock and is wonderful on display! The clock comes complete as shown with three sets of attached metal chains, three heavy pinecone shaped metal weights, the original instructions from the factory, the Department 56 box, and a carved wooden chalet pendulum too. This clock is just remarkable and a great example of the artistic quality found among Swiss carvers for over 160 years. offer with absolute confidence; I have a great deal of confidence in knowing that you will love this clock!
