Two(2) early original vintage press photographs shows scenes from World War l. These photographs were used again in a 1941 newspaper article.First view shows German soldiers marching into Antwerp Belgium after it capitulation from a long siege in 1914.On 9 October, 1914 the remaining garrison surrendered, the Germans occupied the city of Antwerp and some British and Belgian troops escaped to the Netherlands to the north and were interned for the duration of the war. Belgian troops from Antwerp withdrew to the Yser river, close to the French border and dug in, to begin the defense of the last unoccupied part of Belgium and fought the Battle of the Yser against the German 4th Army in October and November 1914. The Belgian Army held the area until late in 1918, when it participated in the Allied liberation of Belgium.The second photograph shows German soldiers in house to ouse fighting during the battle of Neuve Chapell France.The Battle of Neuve Chapelle (10–13 March 1915) took place in the First World War in the Artois region of France. The attack was intended to cause a rupture in the German lines, which would then be exploited with a rush to the Aubers Ridge and possibly Lille. A French assault at Vimy Ridge on the Artois plateau was also planned to threaten the road, rail and canal junctions at La Bassée from the south, as the British attacked from the north. The British attackers broke through German defenses in a salient at the village Neuve-Chapelle but the success could not be exploited.Photographs measure 7 x 8 inches and are in very good condition with a few light surface wear (see scans).
