WONDERFUL BRITAIN Mar 5 1929 Liverpool Bridges Dickens Scottish Covenanters FensWONDERFUL BRITAIN MAGAZINEIts Highways, Byways and Historic PlacesEdited by J. A. HammertonMarch 5th 1929 - No 27Please scroll down for additional pictures

Wonderful Britainwas amagazine completein 32 fortnightly parts edited by Sir John Alexander Hammerton, and the aim was to bind the issues into a set of four volumes. There are fantastic photographs[photogravure / phototones]and interesting editorial creating a lovely record of British life in the interbellum period. Billed as‘for Lovers of Romance, Motorists, Cyclists, Lovers of History, Ramblers, Tourists, Stay-at-Homes - Where To Go, What To See’ these magazines have their covers, unlike those bound in volumes.

Each issue was accompanied by a loose‘large scale’road map that was designed to be put together to build a complete road map of the British Isles. These maps are present with these issues.

In this issue:
  • Large Scale Road Map ofLiverpool and District
  • Bridges - Quaint and Historical (Concluded) by W Shaw Sparrow
  • Through England with Dickens by Walter Dexter
  • Things to see Round Liverpool by Joseph Hawley
  • Scenes of the Scottish Covenanters by Rev Dr W. S. Crockett
  • The Magic of the Fens by F. A. Mackenzie
  • Last of England’s French Possessions by F. Deaville Walker - Channel Islands (first part of this article, which ends in the next issue, No 28)

The magazine measures approximately 28 cm x 22 cm and weighs around 250g

Condition: The magazine is in very good condition, showing light reading wear and some creasing to the covers, the staples have rusted making the pages loose. Given that the magazine is around 90 years old, its condition is very good, but not perfect! The magazine pictured below is the one you will receive.

I accept returns, and if you’d like any further information, just ask!
