The existence of glass MASON jars dates to the Civil War era (invented by John Landis Mason in 1858)*
Patent 22, 1857-first patent with many variations since. The ATLAS glass Company merged with the Hazel Glass Company in the late 1800\'s becoming one of the world\'s largest.**
In 1859, Mason sold the patent to the (Lewis Boyd) Sheet metal screw company. Boyd developed the lid further and used thin zinc to form the threads and lid.. The original 1800\'s seal was rubber and was later replaced withe the more robust \"porcelain\" style. This style didn\'t last long and was replaced with glass seals (many colors) but the logo indie the jar on the bottom side of the lid reveals the lineage***.
This item for sale dates to approx. 1902 when the milk glass seal and the Zinc cap (non-magnetic) Mason jar were paired** HAZEL-ATLAS has the letters H (capital) and a (subscripted) molded into the seal-representing Hazel-Atlas manufacturing in 1902****.Please note the word ATLAS on this jar with the hyphens left and right of the name -ATLAS- See pix.. I have not found and lineage of this but the jar has random air bubbles in the lower part of the jar indicative of early molding processes. Near the end of the 19th century., Clutha\" ancient appearance glass was made by James Couper and Sons by adding chemicals to the molten glass which creates random bubbles named puleguso..******
Thus my research indicates this item was produce in very early 1900\'s
