Vtg Metal Advertising Ruler \"Got a minute? Have a Hires A Good Rule To Follow\":
$15.65

Upper for sale is a scarce advertising ruler (sign) promoting Hires (root beer). This is a 12 inch (1 foot) ruler with inches (to the nearest 1/16 of an inch) along the top and centimeters (to the nearest 1/10 of a centimeter) on the bottom. On the far left side is a small hole (probably as issued) that would allow the ruler to be hung on a nail, if desired. The ruler is made of thin, flexible metal with a white background and blue printing. At each end of the ruler is the Hires logo with a check mark in a target. Below that reads:Made withRoots - Barks - Herbs
Across the length of the ruler is the following message:
Got a minute? Have a HiresA Good Rule to Follow
My research shows that the \"Got a minute? Have a Hires\" advertising theme was used in the late 1940s and early 1950s. \"A Good Rule to Follow\" would have made particular sense as a clever pun when used on an advertising ruler.
According to the website of \"Hiresbook\", Hires advertising rulers were first issued as part of a 1949 promotion. Figure 1949-21 of this website has a photo of five different versions of the ruler, each identifying a different business sponsor (e.g. Whelan\'s Low Price Drug Store, Katz Drug Company, etc.) In each of these five versions, the Hires logo appears only on the left side and the logo of the business sponsor on the right side. The ruler I am selling does not mention any business sponsor and instead has the Hires logo on both the right and left sides.Provenance: I obtained this ruler from an estate. It was among various sewing and knitting supplies and publications. There were other items from the same era as this ruler. Please see above for description of condition and for photos. (There are SIGNIFICANT condition issues.) Sold as is.
