Would you like to know more? Get comfy, put your feet up and read on.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Archive photos are used to illustrate and demonstrate this type of unique automatic zigzag attachment using my Singer 201 and my Featherweight 221 sewing machines.

This beautifullyengineered Greist ZigZagger Attachmentmanufactured during a time whenquality was still important offers a world of sewing creativitysuch as pin tucks, pleats, top-stitched embroideryplaying with different weight threads, cording, joining lace, embellishing projects with trims like satin rat tail, rickrack or yarns.

Let\'s start with the oneof unique forms of stitchery magic theGreist Decorative StitchAttachmentpossesses!

The 5 dinky dime sizedStitch Pattern Design Cams.

Each of the 5 stitchpattern design cams delivers a unique stitch pattern.

Varying the width and lengthof the stitch or using different thread types and weights changes the look ofthe pattern significantly. I used 50 wt. cotton thread on the bobbin, 12 wt.cotton thread on top (see orange arrows) and a size 90 sharp needle to obtainthis distinct embroidery like result.

I did have to sewslowly! My Singer Featherweight 221 wasn\'t too happy with the larger thread.

But my Singer 201 was a champion.

Adjust the stitch fromnarrow to wide easily by loosening the screw and sliding the scale here (orangearrow 4 3 2 1).

1 is the most narrowzigzag stitch.

4 is the widest zigzag stitch.

Changing the stitchpattern design cam is easy. Gentlypop off the snap fastener holding the cam and place the desired stitch cam on the littlespindle.

Pop the snap fastenerback on and voila!

Note: Always startstitching with the pawl in the deepest groove of the stitch pattern design cam.

Your incredible littleGreist Decorative ZigZag Attachment can change from zigzag to straight stitchinstantly.

See the pawl with theend sitting in the ratchet wheel?Flip it back gently to disengage the zigzag (orange arrow). You are able to perform a straight stitch as long as the pawl is disengaged.

Straight stitching onthe green rick rack.

The foot of your GreistDecorative Stitch Attachment has a blue metal cording spring guide built into the foot(picture below).

Cording can be very effective as an added feature!

An adjustable edgeguide can be attached to the foot of your Greist Decorative Stitch ZigZag Attachmentusing a tiny screw.

Setting the guide byloosening the dinky screw and moving the guide to the left or right of theneedle determines where the stitches fall.

This is important if you want thestitch to be deeper into the fabric or close to the edge of the fabric, trim orlace you are sewing.

The edge guide placedall the way to the right (red arrow).

Or all the way to the left (blue arrow).

Accurate placement ofthe edge guide feeds the fabric to exactly where you want the needle to stitch.

Joining lace.

Pin tucks.

Lacey lingerie!(THIS IS NOT in the instruction manual. I\'ve included this method in the bonus commentary)!Using the zigzag stitch alone to add floral lace to the hem of lingerie using a no fray fabric such as knit nylon.Follow the outer edge of the lace using a matching thread.Carefully cut the hem close to the stitching (red arrow). This is very easy to do!Turn your work to the right side and voila!A romantic lace hem for a slip, negligee or camisole!~~~~~~~~~~~~

By the way, did you know…?

ZigZag Attachments of this type have a Floating Footattached to the forked foot of the attachment.

It allows the zigzag attachment to “float” over thick and thin fabrics, seams, edges and other raised areas more easily while your sewing machine is stitching.

It REALLY is not meant to be removed!

Sometimes the teeny tiny spring clamps which hold the floating foot are bent upwards or broken (red arrows).

If the spring clamps are not sitting snugly against the nubs in the fork holding the floating foot securely, there is a lot of wobble in the floating foot. The attachment can crab-stitch off to the side or stitch in circles no matter how hard you try to guide the fabric.

For the zigzag attachment to operate correctly, the spring clamps need to be intact on each side and sit close to secure the floating foot to the nubs in the fork of the attachment foot (green arrows).

Important Care and Storage Tips! This is the most vulnerable part of the plastic case. The little hinge (blue arrow).Let me show you how to place your attachment and the adjustable edge guide to keep the plastic case and hinges safe.~~~The adjustable edge guide goes in first.Place the adjustable edge guide at the back of the case in it\'s special slot with the little screw at the top left. The screw head should be facing the back of the case (green arrow). The guide should EASILY slide down all the way into the slot. If the adjustable edge guide is not seated properly, closing the clear lid will break the plastic hinges and crack the lid.Do not try to store your Greist ZigZag Attachment withoutadjusting the stitch width slide to narrow. The base will be too long to fit correctly (green X\'s below). When the stitch width slide is moved to narrow, the attachment foot, the width adjusting screw and the adjustable edge guide will sit into the case neatly. The clear plastic case lid will close safely.Do you like my comments?
