Up for sale is a UNIQUE piece ofrepoussé (embossed) art copper metalwork. This decorative tray is also deigned to be used as a wall hanging. It measures 17 inches in diameter.Appears to be hand hammered copper.
The tray depicts a male warrior carrying a maiden. He is either standing on or riding on a crocodile. his head is encircled by a halo and the sun is in about the 10 o\'clock position to his right shoulder.
The maiden has a fish jumping above her and a star hovers just above the horizon line below her. Her head is ringed in feathers. There is a small quarter moon to the far right behind the giraffes head. The giraffe is either following them or watching. It is also apparently female as it has breasts.
I had initially assumed this was an African art piece because of the style and the facial features of the characters but it was apparently made by an Israeli artist.
The African animal symbology is strong here.
The giraffe stands above humanity. He sees farther than the rest of us. He is closer to heaven. Dignified and honorable he holds his head high.
The crocodile is associated with strength, power, ferocity, sovereignty, rulers & authority, cycle of life, death, rebirth & fertility. Also Protection, intuition & awareness.
The fish I\'m assuming is abundance & fertility.
Sun the moon and the star also have significant meaning but I haven\'t taken the time to decipher their positioning.
The males & females naughty bits are also showing. I\'m assuming this is a conquering king who has taken a wife & they are about to copulate.
I have researched for years to try and find information on this piece and have only found bits and pieces on the internet. It is stamped R&M HANDMADE ISRAEL. I have seen a few other pieces in this style by the artist Messica & I believe he may be the \"M\" in R&M but have not been able to verify. I have never seen another piece quite like this one and it is possibly either very rare or one of a kind.
