This is an unusual ring. I have checked with several sources and definitive conclusions are difficult to make.
Who made this remains a mystery due to it being signed twice: The back of the ring is a picto mark known to belong to Daniel Benally; The shaft has the initials RD. It is certainly possible it is a franken-ring, meaning the shank was replaced with another. It\'s definitely an old ring, not forged in any way.
Here is what has been determined:- The \"stone\" appears to be an old artifact bead made of antler. I\'ve included an image of it under a black light pen which indicates it is bone or antler and not petrified wood or plastic. The history of the artifact bead is unknown.
- It has a picto mark of two teepees on the back of the ring, attributed to Daniel Benally but not confirmed.
- It also has the initials RD on the inside shank of the ring. This could be the purchaser\'s initials, unknown maker or perhaps the shank was replaced (although I see no evidence of that)
- Acid tested for sterling silver 925 purity
- The bead measures 1\" x 1/4\"
- Size is 5.5
In conclusion, this could be a very important ring, or not. In any event it is a very rare thing to see an artifact antler bead used as the main \"stone\". Because of this I\'m not really sure where to price it, so I\'ll start it low and let you decide it\'s worth.
