MOUNT ST. HELENS ASH, blended wilh clays to form the craggy look of volcanic lavo and capture the timeless mystique of he Northwest mountains.

Left and Right Pages inside Mini Pamphlet.

Shapes of Clay is among the most beautiful examples of handmade sculptured pottery in the world. Stan Langtwait, the originator, was a logger from the rugged mountains of Washington.

Material: Natural unrefined clays, blended with commercial pottery clays and Mount St Helens Ash, allows us to create the craggy texture of the Pacific Northwest volcanos.

Method: A combination of two ancient techniques, inlay and pressing, are used to make Stan's pottery. Crafted in the production was completed by hand.

The subtle differences in color, size and texture express the unique identity of each piece

Color: The subtle color patterns result from foreign matter in the blending of clays and ash and their varying degrees of hardness.

Although the general color can somewhat be controlled, there can never be two patterns exactly alike. The vagaries of nature determine the color and tone.

Handmade with care to become part of your craftware collection.

Back Of mini pamphlet.

On May 18, 1980 we Northwesterners experienced the awesome power of the Cascade Range when Mount St Helens erupted with a force 500 times greater than the first Atomic bomb. The top of the mountain blew off throwing 1,300 feet of the snow topped peak into the sky. Hot ash and cinder poured upwards by the millions of tons blanketing a large portion of Eastem Washington, Idaho and Montana and turning day into night. We have taken this ash, blended it with our native clays, and produced our timeless treasures of the Northwest from the kilns of Shapes of Clay.
