This is the sheet music of a college victory march for NEW YORK UNIVERSITY in titled \"THE PALISADES\" by DUNCAN M GENNS, class of 1900. Music and words are included for three verses. It also includes the school seal. This comes from a 1923 books of songs. This music is in great condition - of course the paper has that lovely yellowing color of old books. When framed, this would make a wonderful Christmas, graduation or birthday gift for any NYU student, graduate or alumni. Page measures approximately 7 x 10\". Comes from a smoke free home. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL PIECE OF MUSIC, NOT A COPY. There are others selling photocopies, but this is an actual page from an old song book! Item will be carefully mailed in a stiff mailer. NEW YORK UNIVERSITYOne hundred and seventy years ago, Albert Gallatin, the distinguished statesman who served as secretary of the treasury under President Thomas Jefferson, declared his intention to establish \"in this immense and fast-growing city ... a system of rational and practical education fitting for all and graciously open to all.\" At that time, 1831, most students in American colleges and universities were members of the privileged classes. Albert Gallatin and the University\'s founding fathers planned NYU as a center of higher learning that would be open to all, regardless of national origin, religious beliefs, or social background. NYU’s Alma Mater, “New York University Even-Song”(also known as “The Palisades”), was written in 1900 by Duncan Macpherson Genns. “Our dear old NYU” became even more appropriate in 1945 when Dorothy I. Pearce, a Washington Square College student,wrote a third verse.As the earlier verses paid homage to the University Heights campus (part of NYU from 1895 to 1973), Pearce’s verse praised “the archway that ever stands triumphant”and symbolically links NYU to the surrounding community. \"The Palisades\"\"O grim grey Palisades thy shadows upon the rippling Hudson falls; And mellow mingled tints of sunset illumine now our classic halls, While students gather round thine altars with tribute of devotion true, and mingle merry hearts and voices in praise of N.Y.U.\" VIEW MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR MANY OTHER COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY, FRATERNITY & SORORITY SONGS!
