Mangbetu figures in African art as can be seen in this superb painted terracotta wine vessel. It is beautifully decorated with highly detailed incision patterning.
The fired terracotta vessel measures 8.5 inches in width by 10.5inches in depth by 15 inches in height (12.7 cm by 17.7 cm by 25.4 cm).. it weighs a hefty 11+ lbs.
It is in very good used condition, with wear showing an age consistent with the late 20th century. There is some minor chipping along the vessel edge but it adds to the vessels richness with the red clay undertones.
It would make a superb addition to any collection of African tribal art
