This is a RARE Swan model, in stunning highly sought after gold filled overlay, with art-deco engine-tuned pattern. This is a SENIOR version of the series, long and slender, with overall length 5-1/4 inches. The pen is in nice condition, very glossy without dings/dents. On the pocket clip was embossed the patented date of the pen, reads ‘PATENT JAN.19.1915’. The imprint at the end of barrel is nice; reads ‘”SWAN” PEN MABIE TODD & CO NEW YORK MADE IN U.S.A.’. The pen bears a nice flexible Swan 14ct solid gold nib, writing smooth medium to broad line. There is also a ‘SWAN’ logo nicely embossed on the nib. A new ink sac has been fitted to the pen. The lever filler system is in perfect working order. The pen has been serviced and tested for its full functionality. History of Mabie ToddThis stylish Swan is a fine example of Mabie Todd – The pursuit of excellence. This Swan is a classic elegance and has been produced to the highest standards of craftsmanship. This would make an excellent gift to treat yourself or for someone special. Mabie & Todd Co Ltd was started circa 1845, when Henry Todd and John Mabie combined their business for the manufacture of pen holders, pencil cases and the other related products. Around 1878, the company began its production of fountain pens. The ‘Swan’ pen trademark is first adopted in 1884. In 1909 production of pens is begun in England and the trademark ‘Swan, the pen of the British Empire’ comes into use. Eventually, ‘Swan’ became another word for ‘pen’ in the popular lexicon.
Around 1923, the firm began production of its line of ‘Eternal’ pens, featured the lever fillers. These were very solid and well made pens, with several attractive colors available.
