Vintage Very-Large & Quite Heavy, Collectible Early 20th Century Double Dragon Naga Mancala Hand-Carved/Hand-Painted Wooden Game Board. Tabletop Indonesian Balinese Kalaha Oware Ethnic Decor.
In my research, I discovered this piece is definitely one of the \'largest\' I could find.I also discovered that most of these bigger game boards were carved for aristocratic families. This one was designed with 16 holes for playing (most have only about 10). Although, I do not personally know how to play theancient Mancala game, it can still be enjoyed today. Research revealed thisthe age-old gameused cowry/cowrie seashell, mancala seeds, small pebbles or polished stones.Notice the wonderful carvings of dual-dragons, one on each end,with their tails interlockedaround the front & back sides. It stands on 4-legged pedestals all in great detail. The colors are hand-painted in deep Asian red (called gincu red),gold leaf & black, some minor paint is missing due to extreme age & usage, nothing serious.Great for a console table, buffet, entry-foyer table for holding keys, loose change, or nothing at all.It looks phenomenal, this is definitely a showstopper.
Condition is in excellent antique shape, showing normal wear as expected with age (see pictures as part of description). Forgive the photos, this is much cooler in person.
