This vintage manganese piece is UV reactive and glows a vibrant green when under a black light. This piece of UV reactive glassware is an iced tea glass, or simply a paneled drinking glass. Lenox was founded in New Jersey in 1889 and is one of the oldest U.S. glass makers around. This simple glass stands roughly 5 1/2" tall and features a paneled bowl with no embossed decoration. It has a short stem with a knop in the middle, that leads to a clear, unmarked base. There are no chips or cracks at all on this piece, and the only flaw at all is an exceptionally minor straw mark on the inside of the bowl, just above one of the panels (Pics #13-14). In the same panel, there is an air bubble, suspended in time and adding confirmation to the item's age. The glow from this piece is very bright and would look amazing in any depression glass collection! Very clean and highly collectible, and a GREAT piece of early American glassware history!!
**IMPORTANT** THIS IS NOT URANIUM GLASS!Manganese fluoresces at a wavelength of around 365nm, typically considered "UV-A light." UV and blacklight are NOT always the same! Blacklights typically operate in the 380-400nm range or higher, which is ideal for uranium glass but too high a wavelength for manganese. At around 395nm, visible light starts to seep in, starting with the violet, indigo and blue bands of the visible spectrum. The manganese items I sell will glow a deep royal blue, or possibly not at all, when displayed in cabinets where the range is in the 390's or higher. Please make sure you understand what it is you are buying, and that it will fit into your collection!
