Column:

I found this obi in a vintage kimono store in Japan. It is avery gorgeous and beautiful obi. The manager of that store told me about it.

“The Shosoin pattern of Nishijin textiles is very preciousnowadays. It is very expensive because it takes a lot of time and effort by themaker, and the cost of the fabric is very high because of the many types ofthreads used. Today, Japanese people no longer wear kimonos and obis withgorgeous patterns due to the recession of more than 30 years. The makers havealso stopped making them because the cost is too high. There are fewer andfewer people to carry on the techniques. There will be fewer gorgeous andbeautiful obis in the future.”

He regrets to say so.

JPS would like people around the world to know about such beautiful obis.
