Vintage International Truck Advertising Paperweight
Featuring the Mack Truck Company Bulldog
A very nice condition addition to your Mack or International collection
This paperweight consists of an International Truck die cast emblem mounted on a 3\" X 4\" X 3/4\" piece of what looks like walnut with a felt back, weighing in at a little over 9 oz. This piece is made by the \"Lewis Corp.\" of Palatine, IL, (better known for their work in manufacturing belt buckles).

As often happens, I learned a couple new (to me) things of interest while researching this piece and thought I\'d pass some of that information along here. It was on September 23, 1911, that the Saurer Motor Truck Company merged with the Mack Brothers Motor Car Company of Allentown, PA headed by J. M. Mack, forming the International Motor Truck Company (IMTC). It wasn\'t until 1921 that the company adopted the Bulldog as its corporate symbol.As some of the earlier story goes... Mack built a military armored car for the New York National Guard. During World War I, Mack delivered approximately 4,500 \"AC\" model trucks of 3-1/2, 5-1/2, and 7-1/2 ton capacity to the US government. During that same period, Mack delivered over 2,000 units to Great Britain and these trucks did an outstanding job under very difficult conditions.
The British soldiers (\"Tommies\") would call out when facing a difficult truck problem, \"Aye, send in the Mack Bulldogs!\" The primary, and generally universal story is that the British engineers testing AC\'s and the Tommies in France said that \"The Mack AC\'s have the tenacity of a bulldog.\" At that time, the symbol of Great Britain was the bulldog, and this was high praise for the trucks. American \"Doughboys\" expressed the same opinion of the truck.
