Vintage Hollowed and Turned Wood
Barrel with Three Feet
and
A Lid with Central Finial

For Your Wood Turnings A vintage lathe turned wooden barrel with three applied wooden peg feet. The barrel which is decorated by raised bands both near the top and the bottom has a nice fitting wood lid. The circular lid has a central finial which is affixed to is. The finial has the form of a knob and looks great. The barrel itself is made opf one piece of wood which has been hollowed out and nicely formed. The three peg feet are applied to the bottom of the barrel using glue. The lid is also made of wood and sits nicely within the top opening of the barrel which has a flared shaped rim. The barrel and the lid have a nice finish to the exterior surface. The interior of the barrel as well as the bottom of the lid do not have an applied finish. A great looking piece of primitive wood turning worthy of a spot in any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

  • Date: Uncertain, but most likely early to mid 1900s.
  • Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southern New Jersey, USA
  • Size: The c barrel measures ~2 7/8\" diameter on the top, ~3 1/8\" at its widest and is ~3 5/8\" high without the lid. The finial adds ~5/8\" to the height. The piece weighs ~5 ounces.
  • Maker: Unknown.
  • Marks: Unmarked.
  • Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a beautiful piece of turned wood that would make a great addition to your collection of wood turnings.
  • Condition: The piece is in very good condition with no cracks, no breaks, no repairs, and no losses. The surface finish is a bit worn off especially on top of the lid. The inside has a spot that is darker in color, we are unsure if it is the natural color of the wood or a discoloration due to some soiling or staining. The feet are well in place and you can see residue of the glue around the spot where the feet and the bottom of the barrel meet. This would make a great addition to your collection of primitive Americana. Please see photos to appreciate its beauty and for additional condition information.
