This listing is for a vintage, 1970, Hawaiian puka shell necklace. These are genuine puka shells that begin as cone shells that are tumbled by the ocean and sand until they become concave discs. The little shells were then picked up and made into jewelry. The shells in this necklace were made by nature. Lots of man-made puka shells litter the market. Look at the beads and notice they are slight differences in size, shape and color. Notice also the ridge that spirals down to the hole and the small pits on some shells. These are all evidence of natural puka shells. They are strung on beading cable and close with a barrel clasp. The necklace is in good vintage condition with wear that proves its age authenticity.
