Bowl comes from the estate of Dr. Alexis Shelokov who was born in 1919 in Harbin China to Russian parents and migrated to the United States in the 1930's for college. He attended Stanford Medical School and was one of the first doctors at NIAID to assist in the creation of the polio vaccine.
