This vintage, hand woven Ashanti/Asante Kente Cloth from Ghana, is an authentic piece ofAfrican art. It is in excellent condition. There are no repairs, splits, tears,or missing pieces. There is no machine stitching anywhere in this cloth. Kente Clothshave patterns, designs, and colors that are symbols, meanings, names, and messages.Worn for special occasions and ceremonial gatherings by both men and women,this is a woman’s size cloth, measuring 78" long by 31" wide. It is asuperb piece of traditional weaving, featuring the hand weaving of Asante artisans.An icon of African cultural heritage, Asante Kente Cloths are recognized for theirdazzling, multicolored patterns of vibrant colors, geometric shapes, complex andbold designs. It is the best known of all African textiles, all over the world.See the pics.


Originating from the Ashanti region, Kente weaving is askilled art traditionally done by the males that hand weave strips of cloth on awooden horizontal treadle loom, with multiple dyed cotton and silk threadsintricately woven together. This process can take several weeks to months,depending on the complexity of the designs and lengths needed. The women handsew the strips together with running stitches to make the final cloth.

In the past, a Kente Cloth was worn primarily by kings andhigh-ranking chiefs, but its use today has been adopted by people in otherAfrican countries and all over the world. Kente Cloths are worn in the UnitedStates for church celebrations, graduation ceremonies; for Juneteenth, Kwanzaa,and other holidays or special occasions, as a means of African Americansexpressing their African origins and heritage.
