Vintage French Biot Pottery 10.75” D Serving Bowl, Provincial/Scalloped Trim:
$197.44

Vintage 1950s French Biot Pottery 10.75” Serving Bowl, Provincial/Scalloped Trim, Honey Brown. This beautiful, vintage serving/salad bowl is in very good condition. The bowl shows a few "flea bite" chips/blemishes along the scalloped rim. There are a few blemishes, all are very, very small (.1/.2mm). Some are not visible, but you can feel spots that are slightly rough. The dish is crazed throughout. I've tried to take clear pictures, but crazing is difficult to photograph. Please feel free to message me if you would like more photos. The bowl measures 10 3/4" D x 4 1/8" H. This would serve perfectly as either a serving, pasta, or salad bowl. This is an extremely rare item. Please ask if you have any questions! Item will be shipped carefully packaged. Thanks for looking!

~Biot is a French ceramic company that was founded in 1830 in the town of Biot, located in the southeast of France. The company was established by a group of local potters who wanted to preserve the traditional craft of pottery making in the region.

Initially, the company produced utilitarian pottery such as jars, bowls, and plates, which were sold to local markets and restaurants. However, over time, Biot began to produce more decorative pieces, including vases, lamps, and sculptures. The company became known for its signature glazes, which were created using a special technique that involved spraying metallic oxides onto the pottery before it was fired in the kiln.

In the mid-20th century, Biot gained international recognition for its unique pottery designs and was featured in exhibitions and trade fairs around the world. The company also collaborated with renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, who worked with Biot to create a series of ceramic plates and vases.

Today, Biot continues to produce high-quality ceramics using traditional techniques, and its products are sold in stores and galleries throughout Europe and beyond. The company remains committed to preserving the heritage of French pottery making and to creating beautiful, functional pieces that are both timeless and contemporary.
