A piece of modern aviation warfare history.
This prototype model ECM Pod is from the Westinghouse Electric Corp. Electronic Systems Division located in Linthicum, MD. This division was acquired by Northrop Grumman in 1996.
This is a LARGE 1:3 scale model made of solid wood. The model ECM Pod is 39 inches long, 3 5/8 inches wide, and 4 inches high. It weighs 6.5 pounds. It is missing the attachment lugs on the top, but they can be easily crafted and added by a modeler or craftsman.
The base of the stand is 20 in x 7 inches made of solid wood. The base has a chip and some indentations.
When mounted on the base, the model stands 11.5 inches high and the entire set weighs approximately 10 pounds.
This vintage model has less wear than expected for its age. Please review photos carefully. Photos are included as part of the description.
Model will be shipped broken down to save on shipping costs.
AN ALQ-131 HISTORY
Development of the ALQ-131(V) began in 1972 and it entered full-scale engineering development in 1976. Flight testing and evaluation were completed quickly and an initial production contract was awarded in 1977.The AN/ALQ-131 Electronic Countermeasures Pod provides electronic countermeasures protection for USAF, ANG, AFRES, and FMS country aircraft. The AN/ALQ-131 is certified on the F-16, F-111, A-10, F-4, F-15, F-5 and C-130 aircraft.
The ALQ-131 ECM Pod is modular in design containing various electronic receivers, antennas, and powerful transmitters designed to alter the flight path of an incoming enemy missile. This modular pod-mounted system can be configured to cope with a range of threats, spread over one to five frequency bands, by selecting individual modules for inclusion in the pod.
Both noise and deception-jamming modes are available, and the pod can be reprogrammed to match the expected threat. The pod is controlled from the cockpit by both automatic and manual means. The cockpit control indicator is used to turn the system on, enable threat response actions, and display system status. ECM pods are pre-programmed on the ground for specific threats that may be encountered
