You are offerding on a genuinevintage“East German Army Rain Pattern Camouflage Hat with Insigniain a Size 3 / Large in New and Unissued Condition. This particular hat is an early issue from 1986 variant”.This East German rain pattern field hat hasa ball cap shape with a brim to keep sun and weather out of the wearer’s face. Onthe front is the colored insignia of East Germany of a compass and hammersurrounded by ring of rye. There is an elastic band on the back to allow fora proper fit. It has a gray lining and is stamped “III or a Large” \"1856 P\" which stands for the manufacturer (1856 ) and the year made 1986 (P). The EastGermans moved away from making costly, individual metric sized headwear andinstead used a I, II, III and very rare IV (XL) to denote head size. The III size should fit size 57, 58 and 59. These caps normally have 4 metal grommeted air vents holes - 2 on either side but this cap has air holes but no grommets. This cap is a curious early 1986 issue variant and it may have been an early failed attempt at some cost savings by not using the metal grommets as it is NVA marked so it was accepted into service. I have never seen this before.This cap is brand new and never worn. I always liked this East German ball cap stylehat as it so different from any other East German field hats. These Size III caps are very hard to find.This is the very last RainPattern cap I willoffering. There are no more.
