Vintage Composite Resin Polar Bear Figure Statue Sculpture by Francois Pompon! Amazing design to this sculpture - please see photos for all of the detail. There are no cracks, chips, or dings on the figure - this sculpture is in excellent, vintage shape (please see pictures for an accurate account of condition - vintage items have some small wear due to being items of age). This is cast in a composite marble resin which has slightly yellowed with age. This is a different, earlier version than the Met Museum of Art version, possibly 1940(s). There are a few tiny marks on it, and a tiny scuff near the right eye.History: A one-time assistant in the studio of Auguste Rodin, François Pompon (1855 –1933) did not achieve recognition as a sculptor until he was 67 years old. In 1922, his plaster sculpture of a polar bear—nearly ten feet in length—won critical and popular praise at the Paris Salon d’Automne. This work was later reproduced in a variety of sizes and media, including plaster, porcelain, and marble. The statue is approximately 9.5\" long x 2\" wide x 5\" tall.
