A fabulous set of 6 vintage linen cocktail napkins with a Madeira hand-embroidered French Sailor applique. This set is rare.
Each napkin features a World War II French sailor celebrating his time on leave. He's wearing the traditional French uniform of the time including the iconic navy cap with red pompom. Light blue shirt with a white tie, red cuffs, navy sailor pants and carrying a bottle of wine or champagne. All on white linen and finished with a white scalloped embroidered edge. The embroidery detail is great.
The set is in very, very good condition. No holes or stains. A few loose threads and one napkin has a tiny area of wear in one corner. See last photo. This is not noticeable and does not take away from this special set. Hand-laundered and pressed.
The napkins measure approx. 7 1/4" X 4 1/2".
