This is a stunning handpainted enameled porcelain plate made in China. It is a deep plate, with slightly scalloped edges with traditional Chinese elements handpainted. The detailed painting and shading of the elements is fabulous. There are 3 butterflies and orange and yellow gourds and greenery. On the outside of the plate are 4 red bats painted, evenly spaced.

This backstamp is the mark of the emperor of the Qing dynasty from 1796-1820. However, this type of plate was made to honor an Emperor and Dynasty of the past, it is not that old. I have seen a similar plate, with a sticker on the back, “made in Shanghai China”. According to gothberg.com, a plate with a backstamp like this, was made recently, probably in the 1980’s, and another expert in Chinese antiques, told me this was made in the 1940’s or 1950’s.

This is a beautiful plate with handpainting and shading and lovely elements. The plate is 9 inches in diameter and weighs 1 pound 5 ounces. It is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
