Vintage, Ada Lum Dolls were handmade in Hong Kong and depict the traditional outfits of Chinese culture. This pair of 14" dolls depicts the traditional outfits of a country farming couple. Both wear blue cotton pajama outfits. The woman doll's clothing is slightly brighter and has a diagonal opening across the chest. She wears a patterned head-scarf to protect her hair (styled in a bun) from dust. She wears black cloth slippers (with socks). Her husband is dressed in a slightly faded pajama outfit with frog-and-loop closures down the center front. He wears woven rope sandals (inexplicably, also with socks) and a wide bamboo hat.
The dolls have a soft cloth bodies and hand embroidered faces. Clothing is removable. Dolls include outfits, shoes, hat, head-scarf, AND the display stands. These dolls were purchased from the Ada Lim shop in Hong Kong in 1983. They are in good condition. The woman's outfit shows no fading or damage. Man's outfit is somewhat faded and has some brownish discoloration on shoulders.....all in all, he looks like he has had a hard day in the fields, while the lady has spent her day indoors, cooking, cleaning, and caring for children!
