Vintage Carved Wood Mermaid - Kneeling Mermaid

Dimensions are ; 7 3/4" high , 5" wide , 2 7/8" deep . Material is most probably Sugar wood . This is a quizzical carving . At first blush it seems a to be a woman kneeling , however upon examination , the 'feet' aren't splayed out , they aren't feet at all , it is a Mermaids tail . At least that's how we see it . The entire carving is itself a bit vague in its presentation . It's vagaries could seem to be intentionally interpretive as in an Art Deco or slightly abstracted in a Modernist way . There's no telling its age but it does possess a healthy patina and is fairly dry . Examine the photos carefully to formulate your own view . Whatever the style or intent , it is a truly satisfying and pleasing piece of the wood carvers art . We like it and hope you do as well .
