Rama is 7th Avatar of Vishnu in Hindu tradition. Sita was afoundling, discovered in a furrow in a ploughed field & regarded asdaughter of Bhumi Devi, goddess of Earth. She was found & adopted byJanaka, king of Mithila, modern Janakpur, Nepal & his wife Sunayana. She isan Avatar of Lakshmi. My name is Sita. I lived long ago, in a world of gods& magic. My husband is Rama, son of king Ayodya. We lived happily in thecity with his father & step-mother. Rama was to be the next king, but KingAyodya\'s new wife was jealous & convinced King Ayodya to send Rama to livefar away, in the country for 14 yrs. I loved Rama, so I went with him intoexile. One day Rama & I went for a hunt in the forest & saw a beautifulwhite deer. I asked Rama to catch it for me & while Rama was chasing thedeer, a wicked King, called Rahwana, appeared. Rahwana thought I was beautiful,so he kidnapped me. I screamed, but I was not strong enough to fight him.Rahwana took me to his kingdom & tried to convince me to marry him. WhenRama found out that Rahwana took me, he got very angry. Rama went to fightagainst Rahwana & he was helped by Hanoman, his servant who was a whitemonkey. Rama & Hanoman defeated Rahwana & they brought me back to thekingdom of Ayodya to live. Everyone was very happy that Rama was back &they named him King. I thought our lives would be happy now, but I was wrong.Rama was still jealous of Rahwana. He believed stories that I had beenunfaithful when Rahwana held me captive. It was not true! I loved Rama & Iwas a good wife. I pleaded with Rama & cried for his mercy, but he refused.There was only one thing I could do to convince Rama that I had been good. Iknew that if I was really pure, fire could not hurt me. So, I set myself onfire when Rama was watching. The flames were hot & the fire roared, but Iwalked out without any burns. Finally Rama & all of the people in thekingdom believed me! Our story has become a legend, an Indian fairy tale,called Ramayana.
